Who is Darby Wallis?

Our name derives from both of our personal lives! Here’s a summary:

We met through mutual friends and immediately connected through our love for all things design. We collaborated on various projects over the years and quickly understood that combining our unique styles and symbiotic skills made a perfectly balanced team. With nuances of an urban vibe mixed with coastal casual, we felt we had the ultimate combination to provide our clients.

As for a company name… that was the difficult part!  Long story short, our name represents a slice of our lives.  Meredith spent her teenage years on Derby Road (pronounced “Darby”) in Nottingham, England, where she discovered her passion for art and design. Erin owned her first home in Pasadena on Wallis Street, where she was introduced to the history of rich California architecture and discovered her love of interior design. Hence, “Darby Wallis” was born.

Great to meet you!

Meredith Gough

Growing up in a family that moved every two years due to her father’s engineering career, Meredith was exposed to several different cultures including her longest stay in England, where she discovered and developed her passion for art and design.  “My parents were either remodeling a home, building a home or redecorating.  Needless to say, as a child, I was always involved in this process and it became second nature to me.  My parents always wanted us to have a beautiful home to enjoy, at least for two years until our next move! Home was always my security in these new environments.”

As an adult, Meredith put her fine art degree to work curating artwork for up-and-coming artists in NYC galleries. But London called, and Meredith’s fine art career transitioned into graphic design and advertising.  Years later, she headed west to San Francisco, and ultimately to Orange County, to start a family.  During that time, she naturally gravitated towards the “3D” aspect of designing interiors for friends and family.  Today, with two grown children, the decision to leave her design and marketing career to enter fully into an interior design business seemed a timely transition.

Meredith describes her style as clean, yet relaxed with a sophisticated urban twist.  The use of color, contrast and detail is incorporated into every project.  With her experience in the field of fine art, Meredith offers her expertise in acquiring and curating artwork to build collections for her clients or add to existing portfolios that enhance the overall interior of your home design.

Erin Loscialpo

Erin is a California girl at heart. Growing up in the Los Angeles area she spent a lot of time as a child in Malibu and emulates the casual, coastal lifestyle not only in her personal life, but also in her design aesthetic.  After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Sociology, Erin was led to “Access Hollywood” working as a Research Assistant in a high pressure, creative environment which taught her the importance of being collaborative and extremely organized!

Moving on to San Francisco, Manhattan Beach and ultimately Pasadena, Erin developed a vast appreciation for CA architecture and coastal living.  “With each place of residence came new design challenges with older, historic homes. This is when I realized how much I thrive on remodeling and designing spaces. There is so much design inspiration here in California, from Big Sur to LA I love it all”.

Prior to Darby Wallis, Erin owned a successful home staging business in Orange County where her talent for making homes beautiful and her entrepreneurial side came to life. When many of her staging clients became interior design clients, Erin knew that her passion was designing homes from start to finish. Erin describes her look as California cool, mixing unexpected personal touches with high contrast style while maintaining the function of a family-friendly space. Erin is married to Steve and mom to 3 beautiful children.
